Located in the charming setting of Gwynedd, PA, the William Penn Inn offers an exceptional blend of American fine dining, elegant bar service, and a stunning venue for weddings and special occasions. This distinguished establishment invites guests into a warm and refined atmosphere, where every detail—from exquisite cuisine to attentive service—works together to create memorable experiences.
As an American restaurant, William Penn Inn shines through its thoughtfully curated menu that balances classic comfort with elevated flavors. Diners rave about signature dishes such as the rich and silky Maine Lobster Bisque, lusciously spiced with Cognac and finished with a touch of crème fraîche—each spoonful a comforting yet sophisticated delight. The French Onion Soup presents a sublime harmony of caramelized onions under a golden, bubbling cheese crust that invites you to pause and savor. For those seeking a surf and turf experience, the tender Filet Mignon paired with succulent Crab Imperial, accompanied by scalloped potatoes and fresh asparagus, paints a plate of pure indulgence. Seafood lovers delight in offerings from the raw bar, a generous and fresh selection featuring chilled jumbo shrimp, East Coast oysters, and tangy top neck clams—each seafood bite paired expertly with a tangy pepper vodka cocktail sauce that sparks the palate.
Desserts at William Penn Inn are nothing short of heavenly. The Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Heavenly Chocolate Mousse Cake deliver a lush, velvety cocoa richness balanced with fresh, juicy fruit, while the classic Crème Brulee entices with its crisp caramelized top yielding to a creamy, vanilla-scented custard below. Although generally a showstopper, a recent diner noted a slightly sour nuance in the crème brûlée, a rare exception in an otherwise impeccable repertoire of sweets.
The ambiance here is equally enchanting, striking an inviting balance between elegant and cozy. During the holiday season, the inn was beautifully adorned with twinkling Christmas lights, transforming the space into a festive haven that delights the senses before any food arrives at the table. This atmosphere, paired with warm, attentive service—as reflected in glowing reviews for servers like Erin and Brian—makes dining here feel both special and comfortably familiar.
William Penn Inn’s reputation as a wedding venue is equally distinguished, with many couples entrusting the team to create flawless celebrations. From the rehearsal dinner to the last dance, the meticulously executed events speak volumes about the staff’s dedication, especially coordinators like Tiffany, praised for their seamless orchestration and heartfelt support. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, the inn’s timeless elegance and attentive service ensure an experience that will linger in your memories.
While some patrons have encountered minor hiccups—such as seating arrangements that varied from their reservations or occasional missteps in meal preparation—these instances appear to be exceptions in a consistently high-quality establishment. The overall consensus is that William Penn Inn delivers warmth, exquisite flavors, and a charming setting ideal for everything from family gatherings to milestone celebrations.
For those seeking a restaurant that combines sophisticated American cuisine with a welcoming, elegant ambiance, or a wedding venue where every detail is handled with care, William Penn Inn stands out as a compelling destination worthy of a visit time and again.

We visited the William Penn Inn for Thanksgiving dinner and really enjoyed the experience. The selection was fantastic, the food overall was very good, and the service was warm and attentive. It felt festive, organized, and well worth the visit. The only downside was the crème brûlée it had a slightly sour taste that threw it off. Everything else, though, was excellent. I’d definitely return and recommend it for a special occasion or holiday meal.
A lovely place for elegance and a fine meal. Certainly worth the experience. In the holiday season, it is beautifully lit with Christmas lights all around, which makes for an incredible sight on 202. Now, on to the food and service. Our server, Erin, was delightful. She made sure that our water glasses were never empty and checked on us periodically to ensure that things were going well at our table. The hostesses were kind and present. We were seated almost right away for our reservation. The food was great. I really enjoyed the escargots, and the bacon-wrapped shrimp in the sampler. None of us were too crazy about the lobster bisque, but, on the upside, it did have true pieces of lobster in it. All in all, if you are celebrating something momentous, or even if you're just in the mood for a night of elegance, The William Penn Inn will certainly deliver what you're looking for. Enjoy!
Our daughter’s wedding was spectacular from the rehearsal dinner to the last dance. The wedding coordinator, Tiffany, all the staff and manager, Jon executed every facet of the two days with precision! Thank you for the wonderful memories.
Warmth service, adequate timing, good food, nice place for family gathering. Just one thing, we reserved for the second floor but were tabled on another floor. I guess they didn't have another guess for the floor and we were consolidated to the floor along with another guests. Besides that we had a good time. Brian served us well.
Had the Lobster Schnitzel A La Oscar. I did not know you had to order this dish well done. It was raw and translucent. Worst meal I've ever had at a fine dining restaurant. I rarely post a negative review but had to on this meal. Potatoes were delicious and the asparagus were good. My wife had the Shrimp Scampi and it too was delicious. I was disappointed in our server not asking if there was something wrong with the dish. I left 90% on the plate and 5% I spit out onto the bread dish. Unfortunately, I ate some. This dish looked wonderful when it came out. Unfortunately, looks aren't everything. Have returned three times since the bad lobster incident, and food and service was great! The Chef probably just had a bad night that time. Service has been excellent here!
The atmosphere and service is wonderful. The prix fixe menu is a good deal! The food is pretty good. Though I don’t recommend the crabcake because the portion is not worth the price. I like to come here for special occasions. Plenty of parking on site.
Celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Sunday Brunch. Food was yummy and plentiful. Venue is decorated for the holidays. Took a peak inside the Monet area and look forward to dining in that beautifully painted room. Another highlight was our server Jacob. He was very personable, gave us historical information on the venue and surprised us with a Happy Anniversary ice cream sundae! Looking forward to returning to this well run inn.
